Alu-TV® Congress
Strong trend towards lightweight construction in cars Alu-TV® and Alu-Scout® at
European Aluminium Congress 2009:
The European Aluminium Congress took place from 23-24 November 2009 in Düsseldorf under the motto ‘Aluminium Automotive Applications – Material for Lightweight Construction and Design’. It was organised by Gesamtverband der Aluminiumindustrie e.V. (GDA), and Alu-Scout® and Alu-TV® were there live as GDA’s media and co-operation partner to report on the important news and trends in the sector with moving images.
The 220 or so participants who attended the congress showed great interest in the six sessions, which covered lightweighting, joining, body structures, body closures, power-train and components/semis. Particularly in view of the current economic situation, GDA’s managing director Christian Wellner viewed the large number of participants as a very positive sign: “One might have thought that the time was not right for congresses […], but aluminium is such an exciting topic, and you can see by the number of participants that it was right to hold the congress now.”
Major carmakers expressed their commitment to the lightweight metal in their keynotes: Audi gave an insight into 15 years of the aluminium space frame car body and its future and Jaguar explained why the automotive industry needs lightweight, cost-effective, sustainable materials. Both presentations met with widespread approval from the congress participants. An exhibition accompanied the congress; interesting solutions in the fields of lightweight automotive construction and joining technology were presented and were the source of technical discussions between exhibitors and visitors.
